I continue to advocate and work hard for my girls, and they work hard for me. I love them so much that I will learn math for them...only if I need to....but I can’t wait till it’s over!!!

Here’s what I know... my daughter having Dyslexia has made me a better teacher. I see how unbelievably hard she works to retain information. Her processing is so different it takes much more for her to learn. If you want your students to know something anything, you must be specific about the content assessed. If them a clear understanding of what you want learned. If you’re going to grade for spelling, students must know which words are to be assessed and be allowed to practice them all week, but seriously is it really that important to know how to spell “Martinique” or is knowing who he was and what he did the reason for study. Do you not use spell check? Information pertaining to specific dates and times need to be reviewed and studied before hand. Time is needed. Flashcards with nemonic devices and picture clues shld be encouraged. She desperately needs time for absorption.

If a kid fails and clearly did not understand the content, they need opportunity to reteach and retest. They need second chances to learn. Sometime, most times it takes multiple attempts at exposure to retain the information. Research proven. Study guides and reviews, quizlett and quizzzs are so essential for success. When taking notes, Cat doesn’t see the word and write it in its entirety. She writes letter for letter and is so worried about writing correctly and keeping up, the information is not sinking in THEREFORE a pop quiz after heavy note taking is not fair or effective ESPECIALLY when the student is NOT allowed to retake or correct the failing grade. grrrr Notes need to be provided please. PowerPoints printed class copies shared. They will be reread and reviewed, picked apart and put back together with chunks and checks, steps by step, pictures drawn, hand motions made and information regurgitated YOUR way.

I know my daughter makes you work harder as a teacher, but it’s her right to have her individual needs met. She deserves a chance to be successful. She is working hard for you and deserves the same from you. I’m pleading with you, as a mother and an educator, please see her for her effort and help to even the playing field. Help her to shine in her own light. She loves a challenge and will walk thorough fire for you if you give her that chance.

First 6 weeks of Middle school Cat had almost all A’s except two 88s. PreAp Math and ELA. So proud of my baby! I’m learning a lot too!!

I have been so sick all week. It was the 6th week in the 1st 6 weeks and I make it a personal goal to have perfect attendance for this one period of time. My portable is dripping with heavy humidity. It won’t stop raining to dry off. My papers are wilted. The jolly ranchers are googy. My throat Lozengees had liquified. I’m pretty sure I have a bronchitis and a sinus infractions. My chest hurt when I cough. My cough went from deep pain to burning throat pain to I can’t my breath coughing fits to now wet hacking coughing. I bet I was close to pneumonia. Suck it up buttercup! Doesn’t matter bc I did NOT take the day off. I did miss practice Thurs but only bc I braved through a scrimmage on Wed. The couldn’t yell but I trireme and by Thurs I had no voice at all. My students said my whispering was calming. They were sweet. My first two blocks were all so quiet but they are AMAZING kids!! My collab reg class all yelled at each other to BE QUIET!! They were defending me as always. Sweet hearts that will do anything to get out of working. Yesterday, we showed the Outsiders Movie bc we finished the book! It was the BEST day. The last day wold ever take off! Today I’m sleeping in but have to coach Addie’s game at 2 First Hills Presbyterian. The other team is undefeated too! We often went head to head last year. The coach is pretty ruthless. I think to suck it up and help my babies control that ball as best they can. I can’t let this grave virus get in the way!

When did we all become judge and jury? What right do we have to say we know, we believe you are right or you are not, whether you are lying or unfit. People have all gone mad and it’s frightening!

The real question is does/should someone’s character affect their ability to be successful in a high ranking leadership position. I suppose it depends on the position. Supreme Court justice where you reign till death HELL YES!! POTUS MOST definitely. My children look to you as an examples of justice. Our country and people’s fate are in your hands. Laws and decisions that will shape our future are in your control. It’s just so sad that this is where we are. I know there are better people that are of good character. Or at least better at destroying calendars and yearbooks and keeping their skeletons in the closet. We need examples of respect and dignity in our country. I will be that for my students and children and athletes. I will try to raise our children to lead with divinity and good character. That is how I protest.
